Achieving stability and restoring self-esteem
Rose Hill Center offers a unique residential treatment and rehabilitation program designed to assist adults with mental illness. A professional mental health team directs programs aimed at helping people successfully achieve and maintain psychiatric stability, meaningful daily activity, and independent community living.
Residents are referred to Rose Hill by mental health professionals, families, or self and must meet the following criteria:
- At least 18 years of age
- Diagnosis of mental illness
- Cannot be actively suicidal or harmful to others
- Not currently verbally or physically aggressive
- Not currently using drugs or alcohol
- Independent with personal care activities
- Willing to participate in a daily, structured program as directed
by an individually developed treatment plan
- Willing to take prescribed medication
The Residential Rehabilitation Program can accommodate up to 39 individuals who reside at Rose Hill for varying lengths of stay as determined by an Individual Treatment Plan.
Residents live in one of two residence buildings in either private
or semi-private rooms. The buildings have large commons areas and a lower recreational area. Balconies overlook a small lake and woods. Meals are served in the community dining room located
in one of the residence buildings.
Shortly after arriving at Rose Hill, each resident's current mental health is evaluated by a clinical team, consisting of a psychiatrist, nurse, social worker, and job-training specialist. Based on this evaluation, an Individualized Treatment Plan is developed with the resident, including appropriate goals and a proposed time frame for meeting those goals. Each treatment plan is developed within the parameters of the "Rose Hill Stage Program" which has been carefully designed to help residents reach their highest level of independent functioning.
Rose Hill's philosophy is that people learn to live life by living it. Necessary skills for future independent living are taught from the time of admission and, as they are capable, residents develop skills in such areas as personal hygiene, food preparation, housekeeping, and budgeting. Rose Hill also emphasizes the development of friendships and the re-establishment of important family relations. Psychoeducational training in social and independent living skills, illness management, and substance abuse prevention are also key components of the program.
Unique to Rose Hill's program is the belief that meaningful activity in a healthy environment can help re-establish self-esteem and, thus, assist with recovery and reintegration into the community. Therefore, all residents participate in a structured, simulated work environment that teaches job readiness skills such as accountibility, dependability, and teamwork. As a member of one of the four Rose Hill teams, residents are responsible for housekeeping, kitchen, horticulture & grounds, and animal care.
While at Rose Hill, residents may also have the opportunity to participate in the on-site school program which is taught by a certified teacher. The Rose Hill classroom is designed to address the common and individual academic needs of each resident, including basics such as reading or math. Support for GED testing is also provided. If clinically indicated, a resident may be able to attend a local high school or GED class.
Residents who meet clinical criteria may be eligible to participate in Rose Hill's Job Acquisition and Retention Program (JAR) that assists residents in a job search, including resume writing, job applications, and interviewing skills.
Computer instruction, music, and art are also provided for the residents. Additionally, when it is clinically indicated, individual therapy may be available from an approved on-site provider who bills independently.
At the conclusion of the Residential Rehabilitation Program, Rose Hill helps each resident develop an aftercare plan that best meets their needs. Some may immediately return to their home community. Others may continue their affiliation with Rose Hill by participating in our other levels of programming. The Rose Hill Transitional Living Program assists those who do not need the close supervision of the Residential Program, but are not yet ready to live independently. The Rose Hill Community Support Program provides a range of supports to assist people residing locally in maintaining their independence. The two Extended Residential homes on the campus are designed for those who need on-going supervision and medication management.
