"Rose Hill is real proof of how much people with mental illness can accomplish if they are given a chance."

- Dan & Rosemary Kelly, Founders

Rose Hill Center opened in 1992 as a direct result of one man's illness. When John Kelly, son of Dan and Rosemary Kelly, was stricken with schizophrenia in 1986 at the age of 25, the Kellys were dismayed to find a lack of effective rehabilitation programs in the Midwest.

Their frustration in seeking a treatment program for John led them to a life-changing decision: They decided to develop a rehabilitation program in Michigan that would benefit hundreds of individuals who are similarly afflicted with serious mental illness. Dan and Rosemary went to work telling the story, explaining the need, and obtaining funding.

With the support of individuals, corporations and foundations, along with the participation of leading educational and healthcare professionals, the Rose Hill program of care was established.
